History of Monarcas Morelia
Morelia Football Club, originally was founded in 1924 in a prairie outside of the city, and this team was named "Oro". In February, 1951, "Oro-Morelia", which owner was Don Eucario Gómez , entered to the "Campeonato de Futbol de Segunda División Nacional" and they made it taking the name of "Club Deportivo Morelia A.C.".
The National "Segunda Division" Cathegory was born at the same time than Morelia was, and in February 25th in 1951, the team from Michoacan inaugurated this tournament defeating to Pachuca Club, scoring 5-1. In the season 1956 - 1957 this team was 2nd. place and this team was invited by the National "Primera Division" to join to the major league for replace to Puebla Club. The "Segunda Division" champion was Zamora Club, and in the Major League, two teams from the same State were in "Primera" at the same time.
Morelia played its first match against America tying for 1-1. After this tie, were 5 consecutive defeats and another tie, the first victory was until September 15th, in 1957 in the tenth day with 4-1 against Cuautla Club. That season was not good and finished in penultimate place on the ranking, being the most goaled team of the tournament. The peculiar info is that of the 54 received goals, Guadalajara marked 11 goals to them, which defeated to Morelia 4-0 and 7-0.
After than one decade participating in the national "Primera Division", on January 21st, in 1968 the team descended to the "Segunda Division". After 11 years in "Primera Division", Morelia returned to where the team had initiated and it would take 13 years in returning to the place that belongs to him: with the greats.
Then, in the end of the season 1973-1974, a group of 32 industralists of Morelia reconstructed thorough all the appearance of the team. They changed the name of the team, and was born "Club Atletico Morelia S.A. de C.V."
